His wife was unable to attend the pageant on Saturday, but her husband explained that creating the costumes is “labor of love” for her. ![]() His first year was in 1976 and, like Mitchell, the show is a family affair for him throughout the years of the pageant costumes need to be replaced or mended so Rewold’s wife made many of the French soldier uniforms worn in the show. Ray Rewold also has a great love for the pageant. Mitchell also explained that she now participates in the baaga’adowe game, and “tacklin’ the boys” is her favorite part of the pageant. Because of her love for the pageant, Mitchell has become more and more involved, from getting a more prominent role (the slave girl carried off by a British soldier) to setting up props and singing “O Canada” before the show. Her first appearance was when she was four months old. Mitchell, 19, has participated for 19 years. Melanie Mitchell said her mother and grandparents first participated in the pageant 40 years ago. This year was the pageant’s 55th anniversary, and many families have been involved with the show since its formative years. However, they were not the only ones enjoying themselves, most of the actors had a good time too. From the laughing at jokes to cheers when the pageant ended, it was clear that the audience enjoyed the show. ![]()
